Why does my olympus battery charger for LI-42B/LI-40B continually flash and not charge?

I have an olympus battery charger for the LI-40B and Li-42B battery. It came w/ my olympus camera. from day one, this charger is extremely touchy in the way of that the contacts between battery and charge seem weak. when you insert the battery the red light flashes and it takes about 10-30 minutes to finess the battery and charger to get the light to stay on (which means it's actually charging). I am currently using a piece of paper wedged in to hold the battery in place....

1. It is possible you have a bad charger. The batteries are pretty standard and usually don't present physical problems. Chargers can be a different matter. I'd suggest you just replace it. There's no fixing these things, especially with physical problems that seem to plague this one.
2. It sounds like your battery charger is flaky. Either replace the charger, or UNPLUG The charger, open it up, and bend the connecting pins a little so that they make a better connection
